Monique Wilson

President & Founder, Styles House

Monique Coleman-Byas has always believed that a stable home, a supportive family, and access to education are the foundations every child needs to succeed. Raised in a household of seven siblings, Monique put her ownlife on hold to help care for her younger brothers and sisters. During one of the most devastating drug epidemics to impact the Black community, Monique—then a teenager—took in a young child whose mother struggled with addiction. Despite her own mother’s disapproval, she ensured the child was clothed, fed, and in school each day. That act of courage and compassion would define her lifelong calling: to care for children in need.

As a mother, Monique continued to open her heart and home—not only to her own children but also to their friends, many of whom still consider her a second mom. She has formed deep connections with countless young people, especially those misunderstood or rejected by their families, including members of the LGBTQ+ community. Her home remains a place of refuge, love, and acceptance.

Professionally, Monique is a seasoned administrative expert, having worked for over two decades at Cushman & Wakefield, one of the world’s largest commercial real estate firms. Her leadership, compassion, and organizational skills have translated seamlessly into her work as Founder and President of Styles House, a nonprofit named in honor of her late grandmother, Verna Mae Styles, who passed away in March 2018. Verna laid the foundation of family, faith, and service that continues to guide Monique’s work today.

Styles House exists to ensure youth—especially those aging out of foster care—have a safe and stable place to land. Through mentoring, life skills development, job placement support, and educational guidance, Monique works tirelessly to give young people hope and direction. As a certified foster parent, she’s welcomed dozens of children into her home, offering stability, encouragement, and unconditional love.

In recognition of her impact, Monique has been honored with several community awards in 2025, including:

  • The Women of Action Award by Jersey City Council President Joyce Watterman

  • The Fair Lawn Rotary Club Community Service Honoree

  • HERSTORY Honoree Oratory Play by Art House Productions for her dedication to uplifting local youth

Monique also supports her community through initiatives like feeding the elderly, supporting the homeless, and organizing backpack drives. Her ability to serve with humility, strength, and an ever-present smile continues to inspire all who meet her.

She carries the legacy of her grandmother with pride and strives every day to make her proud by doing what she does best—changing lives, one child at a time.
